BR - 174 e BR - 364: a Engenharia Militar integrando a Amazônia

Abstract

As características naturais da Amazônia sempre dificultaram a plena integração dessa vasta área com as demais regiões do país. A partir dos anos de 1950, a Engenharia Militar do Exército Brasileiro tem participado da construção de importantes rodovias na área, dentre elas a BR-174 e a BR-364, por meio das políticas públicas do Estado Brasileiro para o desenvolvimento da Amazônia. O presente trabalho acadêmico busca relacionar essas ações estatais com o desenvolvimento socioeconômico pós-construção. Além disso, liga-se com o fortalecimento da soberania brasileira na região. O objetivo geral desse estudo é analisar o papel desempenhado pela Engenharia Militar para a melhoria da integração, da segurança e do desenvolvimento da Amazônia, na segunda metade do século XX. Como metodologia, utiliza-se uma abordagem qualitativa e exploratória, baseando-se em levantamentos documentais e em pesquisa bibliográfica sobre a Amazônia e sobre a atuação da Engenharia Militar do Exército nessa região. Os resultados obtidos da pesquisa apontam para a relevância da BR-174, implantada pelo 6º BEC, e da BR-364, construída pelo 5º BEC e pelo 7º BEC, para os estados de Roraima e do Acre, respectivamente. Em ambas as áreas, houve melhoria dos indicadores socioeconômicos, a atenuação de seculares problemas logísticos, a dinamização das economias estaduais e a atração de migrantes de diversas partes do país. Por fim, demonstra-se que a Engenharia Militar do Exército Brasileiro prestou importante serviço ao país, integrando os extremos setentrional e ocidental da Amazônia com as demais regiões do Brasil.

The natural characteristics of the Amazon have always made it difficult to integrate this vast area with other regions of the country. Since the 1950s, the Military Engineering of the Brazilian Army has participated in the construction of important highways in the area, including the BR-174 and BR-364, through public policies of the Brazilian State for the development of the Amazon. The present academic paper seeks to relate these state actions with post-construction socio-economic development. In addition, it is linked to the strengthening of Brazilian sovereignty in the region. The general objective of this study is to analyze the role played by Military Engineering to improve the integration, security, and development of the Amazon, in the second half of the 20th century. As a methodology, a qualitative and exploratory approach is used, based on documental surveys and bibliographic research on the Amazon and the performance of the Army's Military Engineering in this region. The results obtained from the research point to the relevance of the BR 174, implemented by the 6th BEC, and the BR-364, built by the 5th BEC and the 7th BEC, for the states of Roraima and Acre, respectively. In both areas, there was an improvement in socioeconomic indicators, the alleviation of age-old logistical problems, the dynamism of state economies, and the attraction of migrants from different parts of the country. Finally, it is shown that the Military Engineering of the Brazilian Army provided an important service to the country, integrating the northern and western extremes of the Amazon with the other regions of Brazil.
