A utilização de imagens do Convênio Básico de Cooperação e Intercâmbio (BECA) para atualização das cartas utilizadas nos Jogos Olímpicos Rio 2016

Abstract

This paper describes the work of the Ministry of Defense in efforts to stimulate access to geospatial information at no cost, images of commercial satellites from United States of America (USA) for the production of geoinformation, training programs in geospatial disciplines and the opportunity to coproduce geospatial information and products through the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA), signed with the US. The BECA aims to build a relationship, geoinformation-wise, mutually beneficial and collaborative data and products. The Olympic Games Project was a project of the Brazilian Army in which Brazil received high resolution imagery from commercial constellation of DigitalGlobe, an american partner company of the National Geospatial-intelligence Agency, the institution that signed the agreement with Ministry of Defense. This project took place under the Geographical Service of Brazilian Army, it was of fundamental importance for the production of cartographic products to meet with the needs of the troops employed in the security operations of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, as well as demonstrating the importance of access to modern high precision and accurate geospatial data. Throughout this work we describe the use of images from the agreement in implementing the Olympic Games Project, evidencing the importance of the agreement.
